Sale
United 2 Cheadle Athletic 2
Once again this fixture represented a match between the
top two in the Altrincham U21's Youth League. As in November
2007 game, Cheadle Athletic are top and Sale United second.
In November Cheadle came out winners 1-0 in a close game.
Sale United's only defeat in the their last twelve games.
Despite an early January fixture the sun was shining and
the pitch looked in great condition. Sale were deprived
of three of their squad due to suspension but could still
field a squad of thirteen, Cheadle Athletic arrived with
a squad of twelve.
At the start of play Cheadle were an incredible fourteen
points clear of Sale United in second, a lead that would
probably see them crowned champions. However, surrender
was never an option for Sale United and the players were
reminded that a win today and a possible "collapse"
by Cheadle and the race for the title could still be on.
Plus, Sale had the added incentive of consolidating second
spot, this would represent an incredible achievement when
you consider this is the boys first season at this level.
Sale really set about Cheadle and looked the more interested
and got their reward early in the game. After just fourteen
minutes Andrew Lamb raced down the right towards goal
and was fouled on the right hand corner of the Cheadle
penalty area. Left footer David Fitzpatrick whipped a
great free kick into the danger area and the alert James
Lukeman had time to round Astlecoates in the Cheadle goal
for 1 - 0 to the home team. This early advantage galvanized
Sale United and they looked the more likely to add to
the day's goals tally. However, after a great contest
and great football played in a wonderful spirit, the first
half came to an end with no further goals and the home
team 1 - 0 to the advantage.
There was a positive feeling about the half time team
talk and a real believe that Sale United could win. The
attitude of the players was fantastic considering the
players that were missing and one or two having to play
slightly out of position. Cheadle Athletic were unbeaten
in all competitions so far this season and Sale were now
beginning to look forward to being the first team to beat
the likely champions.
No changes at half time as niether Mark Bainbridge or
David Lamb wanted to change what was obviously working.
However, just seven minutes into the second half and a
change had to be made when Aaron Morris complained of
a sore ankle, a result of a challenge earlier in the first
half. Jebreel Bubtana was despatched to centre half and
the excellent Josh Gorman switching from centre half to
right back to replace the injured Morris. The change certainly
did not effect the flow and Sale United grabbed a second
goal. In the fifty seventh minute a brilliant pass from
the centre circle by James Lukeman found Lewis Davies
who raced to goal. Just as everyone thought Davies was
about to shoot he chipped the ball perfectly into the
path of Michael Ailes. Michael cooly stroked the ball
home with his left foot and Sale's excellent run looked
set to continue.
Cheadle Athletic were now rattled and Lewis Davies nearly
got a third with a delightful chip over Astlecoates, unfortunately
the ball bounced agonisingly past the far post. Despite
Sale's dominance Cheadle started to show why they were
unbeaten this season and started to get a hold of the
game. In the sixty seventh minute Kenny Winstanley was
sent on for Simon Masheder. Simon had worked hard all
game but could not add to his season's goal tally. Winstanley
went to the left wing and James Lukemen was pushed forward
as a striker.
The division's leading goalscorer Martin Clarke had spent
the first half on the bench for Cheadle Athletic but was
unleashed at half time and he started to give the Sale
United defence an extremely hard time. His work rate was
rewarded in the seventy first minute with a beautifully
timed pass by Simpson that released Clarke and his first
time shot was despatched catching out Kyle Stead in the
Sale goal and suddenly it was 2 - 1 and all to play for.
Cheadle were certainly the better team at this stage and
Sale battled bravely to hold onto the lead. Despite creating
few chances themselves, Sale looked like they might get
their reward for all the hard work. Martin Clarke had
other ideas. A break down the right by by Woodhead created
panic in the Sale defence and for some reason both centre
halves raced to the man with the ball, realising this
Woodhead crossed to where Clarke now stood completely
unmarked and he had time to pick his spot and score past
Stead. 2 - 2 with twelve minutes to go and with Cheadle
now in control. Two absolutley immense last ditch tackles
by the excellent Danny Chebrika kept the scores level.
The timing of his tackles were perfection, anything else
could have resulted in a penalty and both could have resulted
in goals but for Chebrika's intervention.
At the final whistle and the game level, the Sale United
players left the pitch as if they had been beaten. David
Lamb had to remind them that they had just held the champions
elect to a draw, a team unbeaten all season and they should
be proud. In conversation with the opposition manager
at the end, David Lamb was informed that Sale United had
been Cheadle Athletic's toughest opponents in the two
league games played between the two teams.
There could still be a third meeting as the teams were
on schedule for a semi - final game in The Edgar Webb
cup should they both get through the early rounds.
Man of the Match was the lively, terrier like James Lukeman.
His hard work really deserved to have won the game.

Ladybridge
Park 1 Sale United 2
Due to the wet weather this was Sales first game in three
weeks. Before the enforced break Sale were the form team
in the league with just one defeat in the ten games, managers
David Lamb and Mark Bainbridge hoped the lack of football
would not have an adverse effect on the lads as today's
games was crucial if Sale United were to hold onto second
spot.
Today's opponents were level on points with the boys from
Sale and were only third due to an inferior goal difference.
They had also played a game more, so a win today would
see Sale United clear second going into the Christmas
league break. Despite the bitter cold conditions the pitch
was relatively good and spectators and players looked
forward to a decent game. The starting eleven was pretty
much determined by the fact that three players were about
to start suspensions, one of these, Andrew Chapman was
unavailable today due to an injury to his hand, the other
two were given a start based on the fact that they will
be missing football at the start of 2008. Two others,
Eddie Moran and Andy Lamb were returning from injury,
they both started in case either broke down and needed
to be replaced.
Perhaps as a consequence of the cold weather or maybe
the lack of football, but neither team really looked like
scoring in a rather tame first half. Sale perhaps were
the slightly better team and created one or two possible
chances while Ladybridge never really looked like scoring.
Half time talk was all about keeping postitive, sometimes
in football when the dominant team fails to score they
can get despondent. No half time hot chocolate or bovril
for these tough lads, a cold drink of orange juice and
they were sent back out while the supporters cuddled together
for warmth. The three substitutes waited patiently for
their opportunity to run around and get warm.
The cold orange certainly had an effect as just five minutes
into the second half Sale United took a deserved lead.
David Fitzpatrick at left back was having a great game
and as he broke out of defence his perfect pass found
Lewis Davies on the edge of the box with his back to goal.
Good control, a clever turn and a delightful chip by Lewis
and it was 1-0 to the visitors. This was Lewis's ninth
goal of the season. Half the team ran to congratulate
Lewis while the others ran to David Fitzpatrick to praise
him for his contribution to the goal. Lewis also made
a point of shaking David's hand.
This early goal shook Ladybridge Park and Sale United
took advantage of this by grabbing a second goal just
three minutes later. The ball was bobbling about in the
centre circle when Josh Bowman managed to get his boot
to the ball and his pass sent Eddie Moran clear beating
the offside trap in the process. As the goalkeeper advanced
Eddie placed the ball with his left foot into the bottom
right hand corner and Sale were two goals up.
The pitch was cutting up a bit and was making for tired
legs so Mark and David decided on fresh legs, a luxury
Ladybridge didn't have as they had just eleven players
on the day. Simon Masheder replaced Michael Ailes in the
sixty first minute. Eddie Moran was despatched from striker
to centre midfield to replace the departing Ailes and
Masheder went up front. Simon was now desperate for a
goal to go level with Davies on nine goals and he set
about running at the Ladybridge defence. Sale United continued
to dominate and should have gone further ahead when Davies
was sent clear in a carbon copy of Moran's earlier goal
but unfortunately his shot went over the bar. Lewis Davies
was obviously getting into the right positions as a decent
striker should as he found the ball at his feet again
in the seventy first minute after great work by Andy Lamb
down the right wing, Davies's first time shot just going
wide of the right hand post.
Aaron Morris went sent on in the seventy second minute
to replace Andy Lamb who was now tiring after his come
back from injury and a five week absence. The versatile
Morris went straight to the left wing as a direct replacement
for Lamb, and as in past games he got straight into the
action. Just as the game was looking like a comfortable
2-0 win for Sale, Ladybridge grabbed a goal after a clever
chip by one of the two identical twins who play for the
Bramhall based club. I am not sure which one !?!?
Suddenly, Sale United were made to sweat and work that
little bit harder to make sure they won. Fortunately they
hung on to win and improve their position in second, now
three points clear of third and with a game in hand. The
third substitute on the day was James Lukeman. After being
given the choice he chose not to go on as he thought he
would not be able to contribute as he was extremely cold.
A very brave, magnaminous decision by James.
In the dressing room after the game David Lamb thanked
the boys for their wonderful commitment. To have fourteen
boys turn up on a cold day and when Liverpool v Manchester
United was on television was a great testament to the
general attitude amongst the squad.
Man of the match was the excellent David Fitzpatrick.
The youngest squad member and possibly one of the smallest
in the squad but a giant on the day once again.

Stockport
Dynamos 2 Sale United 3
This was the third time these two teams had met. The previous
two encounters resulted in wins by one goal, Stockport
winning in the league 3-2 and Sale winning 2-1 in the
League Cup. So it was no surprise that today's league
fixture was decided by just one goal. Despite rain the
previous day the pitch was in better condition than the
previous weeks cup encounter.
Sale United made a couple of changes from the game last
week, most noticeably the return of Tom Boden seeing Aarron
Morris step down to the bench as Tom took up his usual
role at the heart of Sale's defence. Also, unfortunately
Sale lost the services of Eddie Moran, out for six weeks
with ankle ligament damage and Andy Lamb for three weeks
with a pulled hamstring. Both injuries incurred during
last week's game against Stockport. Good news was the
availability of Rob Calderbank who signed for the club
earlier in the week. Rob was named as one of the three
substitues.
These players know each other quite well now and this
was reflected in a very close first half as neither team
wanted to give anything away and despite the fact that
Stockport only had ten men. In fact, up and till Sale
eventually opened the scoring the only talking point was
the amount of offsides referee Les Lever awarded against
Sale United. In fact, some of them were even correct!!
Whilst Stockport appeared to be playing for offside, and
allowing for the fact that Simon Masheder was somewhat
slow at getting back to an onside position, the number
of offsides given against Sale in the first half was incredible. The
one time Sale managed to beat the offside trap saw Lewis
Davies break down the right and his pass was perfect into
Masheder who slid the ball home past Gary Lawley in the
Stockport goal. Twenty nine minutes gone and 1-0 to Sale.
No more goals in the first half just several more dubious
offside decisions. 1-0 to Sale at half time.
David Lamb and Mark Bainbridge called for calm. The referee's
performance was somewhat frustrating and this could lead
to verbal's from the Sale players. Referee Les Lever was
known for his reaction to swearing or insults so the Sale
boys were reminded to stay focused and calm. No changes
made as Calderbank waited to make his debut and David
Fitzpatrick and Aaron Morris also waited for their chance.
Sale's dominance continued and they were rewarded with
a second goal after fifty four minutes. Lewis Davies released
by an inch perfect pass by Josh Bowman and Sale leading
goalscorer made no mistake for 2-0. David Lamb saw this
as an opportunity to make a change and Rob Calderbank
came on for his debut replacing the hard working Andy
Chapman on the right wing. Just as Sale were hoping to
extend their lead and cruise home for a comfortable three
points Stockport Dynamos got a hold of the game and scored
through the excellent Carl Richardson. The same player
who caused Sale problems the week earlier in the cup.
For a few minutes Sale were definitely rattled and a spirited
Stockport scared the Sale boys. Then, in the sixty eighth
minute the linesmen awarded a Sale throw in on the halfway
line, just as Sale positioned themselves for the throw
in the unpredictable referee awarded the throw the other
way. A quick throw by Stockport's Dale Crosby caught out
the Sale players and Carl Richardson took advantage with
a wonderful shot from long range that deeped and beat
Kyle Stead in the Sale goal and all of a sudden it was
2-2.
Fortunately, just as Stockport were thinking they could
win the game, their short period of dominance came to
and end just five minutes after their second when Rob
Claderbank found Davies with a lovely pass and he in turn
laid the ball into the path of Simon Masheder. Simon struck
home from an acute angle of the far post and he joined
Davies on eight goals for the season.
At this point Sale management wanted to unleash fresh
legs on a heavy pitch in the form of David Fitzpatrick.
Just as Lamb and Bainbridge were debating who to take
off, Simon Masheder got a booking for arguing with another
strange refereeing decision. Both managers agreed that
rather than see Masheder run the gauntlet of a possible
red card, Fitzpatrick was sent on for Simon in the seventy
fourth minute. Fitzpatrick took up his usual role of the
left and James Lukeman was despatched up front to join
Davies.
At this stage Norris McWhirter from the Guinness Book
Of Records was seen on the far touchline as the offside
decisions against Sale United reached a record high. At
one point even a Stockport player was heard to comment
on how many were going against the boys from Sale. Tensions
were running high as the game entered the final stages
and it was finely balanced. Dubious decisions by the referee
only added to the increased tension. Then in the eightieth
minute there was an extremely strange sequence of events
that left everyone except referee Les Lever completely
baffled.
Josh Bowman raced into the Stockport penalty area and
was having his shirt tugged. It was being pulled in such
an exaggerated way that every one on both touchlines could
see it. As no whistle was blown Bowman continued his run
only to be scythed down by a terrible tackle. The World
seemed to come to a stand still as everyone waited for
sound of the referee's whistle and the award of the obvious
penalty. Nothing given. After the initial calls of disbelief
came a rather nervous outbreak of laughter at such an
injustice. Rob Calderbank was the nearest player to Josh
Bowman and in his total disbelief he was heard to suggest
that the referee was cheating. The referee chose to issue
a straight red to a bemused Calderbank rather than offer
a verbal warning and a bit of common sense as the game
was nearly over. At this point everyone seemed to go into
a state of shock and someone in Sale's defence offered
a question to the touchline suggesting that the referee
was cheating. The referee heard this comment but could
not determine who had said it. The referee decided someone
had to be punished and amazingly went to send off an innocent
David Fitzpatrick. At this point Tom Boden stepped forward
and admitted to the comment. No common sense again from
referee Lever and Sale United were down to ten men. More
significantly, Sale will have to do without the inspirational
Boden once a suspension comes through.
Lamb immediately sent on Aaron Morris to replace Lewis
Davies. Morris was despatched to defensive duties as Sale
went to a 4-3-1 formation in an attempt to defend the
lead. Sale United managed to hang on to win 3-2 despite
being in a certain amount of disarray thanks to the referee.
Three more points but everyone went home upset and frustrated.
Why is one man allowed to referee and have such an impact
on a game and send off two players when there was not
one bad tackle. In fact, both sets of players are a credit
to The Altrincham League.
Man of the Match was Josh Gorman. A giant at right back
who was instrumental in Sale United's win on the day.

LEAGUE CUP Stockport Dynamos 1 Sale United 2
Another first for the Sale boys, a League Cup game in
The Altrincham Youth League and a first visit to Stockport
Dynamos. These two had met in the league at Crossford
Bridge earlier in the season, Stockport winning a close
game 3-2.
On arrival it became apparent that the over night rain,
together with the fact that the pitch had been used in
the morning, and conditions were going to be quite difficult.
The pitch had cut up pretty bad and was in a poor state,
not good considering it is still only mid November.
Still, a very welcome cup of tea for managers David Lamb
and Mark Bainbridge soon dispelled any concerns regarding
the pitch. With the cold conditions and drizzle, Mark
and David utislised the changing rooms provided and announced
the team in the warm conditions, only leaving the comfort
of the under floor heating ten minutes prior to kick off.
Both teams played some nice football despite the conditions.
Despite early dominance by Sale United they failed to
score and it was the home team who finished the first
half the better team. However, some fine saves from Kyle
Stead kept the score at 0 - 0 at half time.
As the rain clouds created a dark miserable afternoon
David Lamb reminded the boys that there would have to
be extra time, with the conditions this was something
nobody relished. There was a call for an increase in the
tempo and a drive to win the game in normal time to avoid
being out in the cold any longer than necessary. No changes
were made, but with the heavy conditions it would only
be a matter of time before fresh legs were utilised.
Once again both teams set about playing the best football
the conditions would allow. The game was equally balanced
with both sides creating chances, however, it was the
home team who made the breakthrough. In the fifty fourth
minute the ball was collected on the edge of the Sale
United penalty area by Carl Richardson, his shot was low
and hard and possibly meant more as to cause chaos than
to actually worry Kyle Stead in the Sale goal. However,
the conditions meant the ball travelled low along the
ground before taking a bobble in the mud, a bobble that
deceived Stead and the ball bounced over him. 1 - 0 to
Stockport Dynamos. Current form would have suggested that
Sale would win this easily, now, a goal down and in horrible
conditions, Sale were going to have to dig deep to stay
in the cup.
In the fifty ninth minute James Lukeman replaced David
Fitzpatrick on the left wing. David is a very talented
footballer who likes the ball at his feet, the mud didn't
suit David and he wasn't allowed to have his usual impact
on the game. Going a goal down seemed to galvanize Sale
and they got on top, in the sixty second minute they got
their reward. Eddie Moran was released down the right
wing by Lewis Davies, just as everyone thought Eddie must
cross he unleashed a shot from an acute angle. Stockport
keeper Luke Henshall got a hand to the ball but was unable
to prevent the ball nestling in the back of the net for
a deserved equaliser. The heavy pitch was now starting
to tire legs, and despite the possibility of extra time
Mark and David decided to make a double substituion in
the sixty fifth minute. Michael Ailes replaced Josh Bowman
in centre midfield and Andrew Lamb replaced Aaron Morris.
Lamb went up front as Simon Masheder went to right back
to replace the departed Morris.
There was a certain amount of anxiety from both sets of
players as the possibility of extra time loomed large.
Both teams continued to create chances, possibly the best
of which fell to Lewis Davies for Sale after a long run
and cross by the excellent Eddie Moran. However, Lewis
seemed to receive the ball awkwardly and was never in
complete control as he sent his shot over the bar from
close range. Despite the mud being at it's worse in the
middle of the pitch there was some excellent performances
by midfield players. Carl Richardson for Stockport was
having a great game, but it was Andrew Chapman for Sale
who dominated the midfield. The conditions seemed to suit
Chapman and he literally slid into tackles, his kit becoming
a mass of mud. His dad, Ian, a great supporter of the
team was hoping he was getting a lift home. I don't think
Ian fancied Andrew getting in his car!
Just as David and Mark were starting to question if they
had made the right decision making the double substitution,
particularly as extra time was looking a possibility,
Sale got the breakthrough. A long clearance out of defence
by Josh Gorman in the seventy first minute landed at the
feet of Lewis Davies. His initial shot was blocked by
Henshall but Davies got to have a second attempt and he
slid the ball home. Lewis had led the line extremely well
all afternoon and deserved his goal, his seventh of the
season.
Just as it was starting to look good for the Sale boys,
Andrew Lamb pulled up sharply stretching for the ball.
A pulled hamstring was the diagnosis and he had to leave
the field, having made all three substitutes it left Sale
United with ten players. Stockport management noticed
this and called for an extra push to get the equaliser.
This even led to goalkeeper Luke Henshall coming up the
pitch at a corner. After a quick massage Lamb decided
he could go back on and at least make up the eleven. Whilst
he was not very mobile, he was applauded for his attitude,
such was the determination from all the boys to progress
in the cup. Lewis Davies dropped into midfield and Andrew
Lamb was despatched as the solitary striker for the last
eight minutes. A move that saw United with five across
the midfield in an effort to defend the lead. This tactic
worked as they held on for a great win and progress into
the next round.
Sale United play at Stockport Dynamos again in the league
in seven days, let's hope the conditions will have improved
by then.
Despite some excellent performances, particularly from
Kyle Stead and Eddie Moran, it was a unaminous decision
for Man of the Match. Andrew Chapman was awesome on the
day and was instrumental in the win for Sale United.

Flixton
Juniors 3 Sale United 3
After the unbeaten run of six games came to an end at
Cheadle Athletic last week, today was all about how the
boys reacted to the defeat. An away fixture at Flixton
Juniors was never going to be an easy game and despite
the autumn sunshine conditions in the open of Wellacre
School were bitter cold.
The management shuffled the starting line up to try and
freshen things up a little, Kenny Winstanley was unavailable
and Andrew Lamb and Lewis Davies were brought into the
starting eleven. Tom Boden, ill the previous week was
also in the starting eleven. Despite early pressure from
Sale United it was Flixton who made the breakthrough with
a goal in the fourteenth minute. A long ball down the
middle found Jordache Taylor who appeared to control the
ball with his hand as he rounded Kyle Stead in the United
goal, no whistle from the referee and Taylor was allowed
to continue and tap the ball home into an empty net. Sale
had the chance to equalise two minutes later as Lewis
Davies latched onto a poor clearance and unleashed a shot,
unfortunately his effort was well over the bar.
Despite the continued dominance by Sale it was once again
Flixton who scored next. In the twenty fifth minute Pierre
Webb turned well and his shot was well saved by Kyle Stead
with his feet. The resulting corner from the excellent
Martin Ingham caused chaos in the United penalty area
and his corner was allowed to drift in at the far post
untouched by strikers and defenders. A goal for Martin
Ingham.
United continued to press for a goal, at this stage there
was still believe that they could get something from the
game. However, things went from bad to worse in the thirty
seventh minute. The extremely fast Jordache Taylor was
allowed to sprint into the penalty area and Josh Gorman's
untimely tackle brought Taylor crashing to the floor,
the referee had no choice - penalty! Gorman was harshly
booked for the foul. Aaron Kelly, Flixton's usual midfield
general was playing in goal today due to a Flixton goalkeeper
crisis, however, this didn't stop Aaron from taking the
penalty which he slotted into the bottom left hand corner.
As the penalty went in David Lamb was seen to throw the
flag to the ground in disgust and wander off away from
the pitch to contemplate his half time team talk.
3 - 0 to Flixton and maybe the defeat last week had deflated
the boys from Sale more then at first thought.
Credit to Sale United. It would have been easy to really
let heads go down after conceding a third goal despite
dominating, however, they continued to push forward and
got their reward in the forty first minute. Another long
throw by Danny Chebrika direct into the Flixton penalty
area landed at the feet of Andy Lamb, as he attempted
to turn towards goal he was tripped and a penalty awarded.
Michael Ailes once again stepped forward and despite Kelly
getting a hand to the ball it was now 3 - 1. This seemed
to upset the home team and just two minutes later Clarke
was given a straight red card for a two footed foul on
Ailes. Suddenly David Lamb's half time team talk was going
to be somewhat easier and he was seen picking up the flag
and resuming his assisant referee's duties. Sale had got
back into the game and were now playing ten men.
No changes at half time as Mark Bainbridge and Lamb really
stressed to the boys the need to believe. They had come
in at half time having scored the last goal of the half
and with Flixton rattled. Sale were encouraged to get
at Flixton right from the whistle and the next goal was
crucial.
Josh Bowman took this instruction literally as he unleashed
a shot on goal straight from the kick off. Josh had seen
the Flixton keeper was still making his way to goal as
the referee whistled for the resumption of play. Everything
seemed to go into slow motion as Bowman's long shot carried
in the air with Kelly scuttling back to his goal, eventually
the ball struck the Flixton bar and the ball was cleared.
It would have been a spectacular goal and seemed to set
the tone for the second half as United charged at Flixton.
In the fifty first minute Lewis Davies was sent down the
right with a lovely pass from the excellent Eddie Moran.
Just as Josh Bowman and Andy Lamb expected the ball to
be squared by Davies, Lewis had other ideas as he unleashed
an unstoppable shot from an acute angle and it was now
3 - 2. Game on!
Sale United had certainly raised their game and everyone
appeared to want the win, more so than in the first half.
In the fifty ninth minute Simon Masheder was sent on for
James Lukeman. Andy Lamb switched to left wing allowing
Masheder to go up front. This proved an inspirational
substitution as Simon equalised in the sixty third minute,
grabbing his sixth of the season. United were awarded
a free kick and the influencial Josh Bowman struck a great
free kick that Aaron Kelly in the Flixton goal did well
to save, parrying the shot onto the bar. However, as Kelly
momentarilly lost the ball, Masheder nipped in to head
home. 3 - 3 and most definitely deserved.
Andrew Chapman replaced Andy Lamb as United went for the
winner. They had several chances to win the game but stand
in keeper Aaron Kelly did well to thwart United. Possibly
the best chance for United came in the eigthy first minute
as Eddie Moran beat the offside trap and hit a good shot.
Kelly gathered it easily and time was now running out
for a winner.
Flixton did really well, not only defending well but still
causing one or two problems up front as once again Sale
ultimately failed to take advantage of the extra man for
the third time this season as the game ended 3 - 3. Despite
the disappoinment of only drawing a game that current
form suggested Sale should have own, the boys were given
massive credit by the joint managers for actualling getting
a point from the game when they were 3 - 0 down at one
stage.
Man of the Match was Eddie Moran. Despite a slight ankle
injury he was brilliant and his performance deserved all
three points.
Sunday
4th November 2007 Cheadle Athletic 1 Sale United 0
Something had to give as the two form teams and first
and second in the league went head to head for the first
time this season. Unfortunately for the boys in red and
white it was the home team and league leaders Cheadle
Athletic who came out on top in a very close and sometimes
bad tempered game. The only goal of the game came in the
very first minute, Dean Simpson out paced Danny Chebrika
down the right in a race to the bye line and his clever
pass across the face of the goal found James Vernon who
slotted home too easily for the liking of the Sale management
team.
Losing a goal so early, away to the unbeaten league leaders
could have seen Sale United wilt under more pressure,
this was not the case and it was Sale who get a grip of
the game and dominated the first half. In the twenty first
minute Sale came close to a deserved equaliser. Michale
Ailes neat pass found Eddie Moran whose shot was deflected
by a home defender and the ball looped into the air deceiving
everybody, particularly Russel Astlecoats in the Cheadle
goal. However, the ball bounced back into play off the
crossbar, James Lukeman was the quickest to react, darting
in to head the ball goalwards, again Cheadle were saved
by the frame of the goal as Lukeman's header came back
off the post and was this time cleared.
United kept pushing forward and by now the Cheadle players
were starting to argue amongst themselves and also started
to put in some rather unsavoury tackles. David Lamb and
Mark Bainbridge called for calm from their players. Eddie
Moran made a great break from midfield and was bearing
down on goal when a clumsy tackle from behind saw Cheadle
defender Scott Smith cautioned. A bad back pass from Ashley
Woodhead and again the excellent Eddie Moran was in, racing
to goal. His shot was good, aimed at the far right corner
but Astlecoats in goal produced a great safe down to his
left. After one particularly ugly tackle on United left
back Kenny Winstanley there was a brief melee and a bit
of push and shove, Cheadle Athletic player Dean Simpson
took it a stage further a threw a punch at Eddie Moran,
the punch missed but the action was enough for referee
Les Lever to issue a straight red card to Dean Simpson
and Cheadle were down to ten men. Dean Simpson was some
what unlucky as there was a certain amount of push and
shove from players from both teams. At this stage Cheadle
were in a certain amount of disarray and striker Justin
Paul was booked for dissent. United could not take advantage
of the extra man, and despite a great end to the first
half by Sale half time saw the score remain 1 - 0 to Cheadle
Athletic. Credit to Cheadle for holding on. One parent
commenting that half time had come at the wrong time as
Sale were dominating so much.
Sale United managers David and Mark really believed there
was a great chance to win today. Cheadle were obviously
not at their best and were extremely rattled by United's
dominance and reluctance to get caught up in any tough
tackling or verbal encounters. David Lamb called for calm
heads.
The first twenty minutes of the second half saw Sale continue
to create chances, but the team who had scored twenty
five in their last five games could not find the net.
Credit must go to Rusell Astlecoat in goal for Cheadle
who was having a great game together with Cheadle captain
and cente half Simon Hardman. In the sixty eighth minute
another free kick to Sale United in the centre circle.
This was possibly the tenth free kick to Sale United in
the second half and was too much for Cheadle striker Justin
Paul to take and his arguing led to a second yellow card
of the day and now Cheadle were down the nine players
with over half an hour to play. At this stage Sale made
two changes, Lewis Davies came on for Michael Ailes, going
onto the right wing pushing Andrew Chapman into centre
midfield and Andrew Lamb came on as a straight swap for
James Lukeman up front. David and Mark hoped the fresh
legs together with the two man advantage would see the
away team get something out of the game. However, it was
Cheadle who suddenly started to play the better football.
Whilst Cheadle created no further chances the fact that
they held up the ball very well frustrated Sale and Cheadle
must be congratulated for their work rate and determination
to win. At one point Andrew Chapman let fly with a goalbound
shot but the excellent Simon Hardman appeared form no
where with an incredible block, such was his desire to
win.
In the eighty seventh minute a ball from the right landed
at the feet of Andrew Chapman who was bundled over, not
only did there appear to be a trip but also a push in
the back also. Surely a penalty, even the home defence
appeared to stop expecting the whistle. However, the referee
for a reason only known to him waved play on and the chance
for a deserved equaliser was gone. Even the Cheadle players
and management would have gone home happy with a draw
as I am sure everyone agreed Sale United deserved at least
a point. It wasn't to be as the penalty claim was the
last real chance and the referee blew for full time. The
reaction from the Cheadle players at the end confirmed
that they knew they had been in a great, close game and
were very pleased to have won. Cheadle defended brilliantly
and maybe it is the sign of potential champions when they
can win without being at their best. As for Sale United,
David Lamb could not fault their commitment but maybe
they lacked a desire to win. Plus, maybe one or two players
were intimidated by the rather hostile atmosphere at the
away ground. It is now all about how the Sale boys react
to their first defeat since 16th September 2007.
Man of the Match was the excellent Josh Bowman. His work
rate was incredible.
Sunday
28.10.07 Sale United 4 Urmston Town 2
It was now becoming a question of which United's winning
run would end first, some team called Manchester or the
bigger, more impressive Sale !!
Urmston Town made the short trip to Crossford Bridge for
today's games, Sale United having already beat Urmston
at their place 5 ~ 1 earlier in the season. As usual,
prior to the game David Lamb had made contact with all
the squad to detemine availability and for various reasons,
all legitimate, there was just eleven available for today's
game. Earlier in the week both David and Mark Bainbridge
had discussed at length the possibility of signing new
players. As the news of the team's success spreads one
or two players have approached the management wanting
to sign. However, after their debate, Sale United Youth
joint management decided to leave things as they were,
the team were doing exceptionally well and new players
might disrupt the harmony within the squad. However, with
just eleven down today there might be a need to expand
the squad.
The pre-match team talk was all about conserving energy,
the lads ran themselves into the ground the previous week
and without the luxury of substitutes we could not afford
tired legs. However, when the opposition arrived with
just ten players, the advantage was handed to Sale United
and the home team had the chance to pass and keep the
ball in order to tire the Urmston players.
Football fans watching the beautiful game over the years
will know eleven against ten doesn't always mean a rout
for the team with the extra man, that certainly proved
to be the case today as Sale United made extremely hard
work of a gritty, hard working Urmston team. The game
was very much in the balance when Sale United finally
got the breakthrough in the twenty second minute. A lovely
through ball by Josh Bowman, playing out of position at
centre half, released David Fitzpatrick down the left,
he cut inside and scored in the bottom corner. Brian Gaskell
in the Urmston goal had no chance. This lifted the home
boys and in the thirtieth minute they got their second
after a poor clearance by John Burke fell at the feet
of Lewis Davies who took one touch then drilled the ball
home. Lewis was now joint top scorer with Simon Masheder
on five for the season. However, 2 ~ 0 up and with an
extra man did not mean Sale had it all their own way.
Just three minutes later Urmston Town scored. The extremely
quick Joel Williams out paced the home defence after a
long clearance and tapped the ball home under the body
of Kyle Stead as he advanced out of his goal to try and
stop Williams. The first half ebbed and flowed with no
real other chances and at half time it was 2 ~ 1 to Sale
United.
All the usual cliches came out at half time relating to
eleven v ten and taking advantage and how the team a man
down works harder to make up for the shortfall. However,
if Sale United wanted to consildate second place and go
into next week's game against leaders Cheadle Athletic
three points nearer to the unbeaten pace setters, then
they would have to step up their own work rate. With Cheadle
in cup action today Sale had the chance to gain three
points on them.
The half time team talk team talk appeared to have been
digested by the Sale boys as they immediately set about
Urmston Town and just three minutes into the second half
they regained their two goal advantage. A great pass out
of midfield by Michael Ailes released Lewis Davies down
the right wing and his superb cross was hit first time
by James Lukeman. Brian Gaskell in the Urmston goal saved
well with his feet, however, with one of his own defenders
and James Lukeman bearing down on him, Brian only managed
to turn the ball into his own net as he tried to get to
his feet. 3 ~ 1 to Sale United. United started to get
a hold of the game and played some of the attractive football
seen over the past few weeks. A clever shot on the turn
from Andy Chapman deserved a goal, but his shot came back
off the bar to saftey. Minutes later and a great move
by the home boys saw Davies square the ball perfectly
into the path of Andy Chapman. Goal surely !! No, once
again the bar came to the rescue of Urmston. Finally,
Sale got the fourth goal they deserved. In the fifty fifth
minute a lovely through ball by Ailes released James Lukeman
and he accelerated into the penalty area, just as he was
about to unleash his shot he was brought down by John
Burke. No doubt a penalty and there was no complaints
from the Urmston players.
What happened next will remain a mystery. How Michael
Ailes managed to get the ball from Lewis Davies and actaully
take the penalty is a complete mystery. Maybe Lewis was
glancing over at his girlfriend on the touchline at the
time, who knows ?!?! Anyway, Michael Ailes slotted home
comfortably for a 4 ~ 1 lead. Michael's mother, who watches
most games, was heard to ask "does that mean Michael
has scored a goal?". Not someone completely aware
of the rules then.
Over half an hour left and Sale led 4 ~ 1. Somehow though,
it still was not completely comfortable. Urmston Town
showed great spirit and determination, maybe with a full
compliment they would have got something out of the game
today. However, the frustrations of Urmston manager Brian
Roberts were clear before the game kicked off, expressing
his disbelieve at his squads apathy and lack of commitment.
Players letting him down on a weekly basis, preferring
the comfort of their bed to playing a game of football.
To date, this has not been a problem for Mark and David,
whilst they had just the bear eleven today, all absentees
had perfectly good reasons and no-one has let them down.
The commitment has been excellent so far this season.
Urmston's endeavour got it's reward in the sixty fifth
minute. Once again it was the excellent Joel Williams
who scored. A bit of confusion in the Sale penalty area
saw Joel remain the calmist to turn a fire home with his
left foot. There was some head scratching as to how Urmston
had got themsleves back into the game once again. However,
Sale once again dug deep, surviving one late scare when
a sloppy pass by Ailes in the centre circle released Dwayne
Brooks, his clever chip was handled by Kenny Winstanley
and a free kick awarded on the edge of the penalty area.
Urmston's best player on the day, Joel Williams stepped
forward looking for his hatrick but his shot was dealt
with by the Sale wall and the ball cleared.
This was the last piece of goal mouth action and the referee,
who had a great game, blew his whistle. Sale United 4
Urmston Town 2.
A great way prepare for the big game away at Cheadle Athletic
next week.
Man of the Match was the excellent Josh Bowman. In the
absence of two regular centre halfs Josh was asked to
play in this somewhat unfamiliar role and did a great
job.
Sunday
21st October 2007 Hyde United 3 Sale United 5
Yet another new experience as the Sale United Youth squad
travelled to Hyde United for the first time. Part of the
enjoyment of playing in a new league was travelling to
new venues and playing against new teams. The new venue
did not have an adverse effect on the lads from Sale as
they immediately set about business as usual and went
at Hyde United from the very first whistle. An excellent
pitch and brilliant weather made for perfect football
conditions and Sale United were quickest to take advantage
of the circumstances and stormed into an early lead through
a well taken goal from David Fitzpatrick. A free kick
awarded some twenty yards out was no problem for David
as his flighted first time shot hit the back of the net
in the eigthteenth minute. David had already been named
Man of the Match twice so far this season so nobody could
deny him his first goal of the season. David is a gifted
footballer who has become an integral part of this fast
developing squad.
Sale were certainly dominating and it wasn't long before
they got their second. Good work by Josh Bowman resulted
in time and space for Michael Ailes to get his first of
the season. All agreed Michael deserved his goal for his
great commitment so far this season. Twenty three minutes
gone and Sale cruising at 2 - 0. Just as the touchline
had finished debating the goal and how it was reward for
his work rate, Michael Ailes then slotted home his second
and United's third of the game. Were United heading for
another 8 - 0 ?!?!
United's dominance continued and more was to follow. Great
work by the energetic James Lukeman down the left saw
him weave into the penalty area and as the Hyde goalkeeper
committed at his feet, James had the vision to square
the ball across to Andy Lamb who placed his shot past
two defenders and into the net. Andy's third for the season
and United were now 4 - 0 to the good and it was still
only the thirty eighth minute.
However, just to prove how football can be cruel, just
ask Steve Maclaren, Hyde United clawed themselves back
into the game before half time. A momentary lapse in concentration
allowed the Hyde centre forward to fire past Kyle Stead
for a half time score of Hyde United 1 Sale United 4.
In the absence of David Lamb who was taking advantage
of the Indian Summer in Wales, Mark Bainbridge called
for concentration at half time. Not to let the fact that
Hyde scored the last goal of the first half to let them
get the upper hand. As both Mark and David provide a packet
of jaffa cakes for the players, rationing was implemented
whilst David sunned himself in Penmeanmawr.
No changes at half time as both Aaron Morris and Lewis
Davies waited for their oppoertunity. All the plans made
at half time were thrown into chaos as Andy Chapman was
very cruelly sent off by a rather card happy referee early
in the second half. No doubt Andy was fouled, and when
the referee waved play on it was too mauch for Andy and
he remonstrated rather to vociferously with the official
who immediately reached for a red card. Whilst there was
a certain amount on injustice in the sending off, Mark
was not happy and explained to Andy Chapman that he must
learn to control his emotions. The influencial Andy Chapman
will now receive a suspension and miss games for the team.
Now, with almost a full half to play, Sale were down to
ten men. Mark decided to leave things for while to see
how things worked out. He didn't have to wait too long
as Hyde got a hold of the game and started to take advantage
of the extra man and after fifty two minutes gave themselves
hope with their second of the day. All of a sudden at
4 -2 and being dominated by Hyde and all the earlier good
work looked in danger of coming to nothing. Time for action.
Mark sent on Lewis Davies as a straight replacement for
Andy Lamb up front and dropped James Lukeman back from
striker to right side midfield, the position now vacated
by Chapman's premature exit. Mark gave instructions that
the away team were now playing 4-4-1, with Lewis as the
lone striker.
An inspired
tactical change by the manager. Who needs David Lamb?
Lewis Davies is one of the best at holding the ball up
so was ideal as a solitary centre forward, thus allowing
the rest of the team to set about stopping Hyde's dominance.
In fact, the second half became possibly one of the best
spells of football played by the boys from Sale. Not the
fast flowing, goal scoring exploits of previous games,
but a tactical, defensive game where every player ran
themselves into the ground for the team. In the case of
Michael Ailes, two goal hero of the first half, this second
half commitment eventually got the better of him as he
literally ran of of energy due to his second half work
rate. He was replaced by Aaron Morris in the sixtry fifth
minute. Aaron's fresh legs were certainly an advantage
and he too got straight into the action and contributed
to the teams excellent second half display. Not only did
the lads thwart Hyde United's advances and charge to a
third goal, Sale actually got themselves a fifth through
Lewis Davies. Any striker leading the line on his own
who can then actually score is great for the rest of the
team. Sale now led 5 - 2 and looked to be home and dry,
however, the brilliant work ethic of all the lads during
the second half eventually took it's toll as the boys
tired allowing Hyde United to finish the scoring grabbing
a consolation goal late on.
Sale ran out 5 -3 winners to maintain second in the league
and extend their unbeaten run to five games. A sequence
that has seen four wins and a draw and scoring twenty
three and conceding just eight. In a match report over
the telephone Mark reported to the absent David Lamb that
the team had been fantastic, winning a game that could
so easily have gone the other way. A great team spirit
and willingness to work hard for each other got them the
three points today.
Man of the Match was the ever impressive Tom Boden at
centre half. Severe cramp did not deter from what was
yet another fantastic display.
Sunday
14th October 2007 Sale United 3 Ladybridge Park 3
Sale United had won their previous three games going into
today's fixture and were riding high in second place in
the league. Possibly due to the increase in confidence
as a result of the recent results and believing they were
now invincible, but United started awfully against a team
level with them on points but with an inferior goal difference.
Managers Mark Bainbridge and David Lamb kept faith with
the team from the previous week, making one change due
to the unavailability of Tom Boden at centre half. Josh
Gorman coming in to replace Tom. Ladybridge Park had the
better of the early exchanges and it was no surprise when
they took the lead. In the fourteenth minute a Sale United
free kick was too easily blocked by the Ladybridge defence
and the quick break led to an easy goal for Richard Thomas.
This goal seemed to spur United into action and in the
twentieth minute, somewhat against the run of play they
got the equaliser. An excellent cross form the right by
Lewis Davies and Josh Bowman rose the highest to head
home, his fourth goal in the last three games.
The first half remained tight and both teams had chances,
however, it was no surprise really when Ladybridge who
took the lead and subsequent half time advantage. In the
thirtieth minute a rather innocuous ball down the left
wing should have been easy for Aaron Morris at right back,
however Aaron did not get enough contact on a header aimed
at his goalkeeper and the left winger, Mark Thorley sneaked
in and placed the ball past Kyle Stead. A few minutes
later Aaron was booked for dissent, possibly out of frustration
for his earlier error. At this point joint managers David
and Mark decided to change the right back, as much for
the fact that he had been booked as anything else. Eddie
Moran replaced Aaron Morris in the thirty eighth minute.
2 ~ 1 to Ladybridge at half time.
David Lamb expressed his disappointment to the lads during
half time saying it was possibly the worse first half
performance all season. The emphasis for the secind half
was on believe and encouragement, Sale had an opportunity
to go clear in second place but would have to improve
in the second half. Kenny Winstanley replaced James Lukeman.
Kenny slotted in at left back allowing David Fitzpatrick
to push up onto the left wing and Simon Masheder replaced
Michael Ailes, Josh Bowman dropped deeper into central
midfield and Simon went up front.
The changes seemed to work as the home team made the better
start in the second half and really had Ladybridge on
the back foot. This pressure was eventually rewarded in
the fifty eighth minute with a free kick thirty yards
from goal. Josh Bowman stepped up and was told by David
Lamb to "work the keeper". He certainly did.
A wonderful free kick resulted in an equally wonderful
save from Zack Worthington in the Ladybridge goal. Zack
palmed the save into the feet of Simon Masheder, his resulting
shot was saved brilliantly again by Zack, this time his
save fell to Andrew Chapman who headed home his fourth
of the season and Sale were deservedly level. Extremely
hard luck on the Ladybridge goalkeeper who had made two
excellent saves.
Sale United really began to dominate and Simon Masheder
was unlucky with a clever shot coming back off the cross
bar. However, it was Ladybridge Park's turn to score against
the run of play in the seventieth minute. A break down
in communication between the two Sale United centre halves
resulted in Richard Thomas finding himself in space to
slot home his second of the game and restore the away
teams lead. United really began to press for an equaliser
but it began to look like it was not to be their day as
time ticked away, particularly with the impressive performance
of Zack Worthington in the Ladybridge goal.
Then, in the eighty fifth minute a long ball into the
penalty area created confusion in the Ladybridge defence
and a free kick was awarded for a back pass to the the
goalkeeper. As with any such award of a free kick, there
was heated debate as to whether or not it was a back pass
and the Ladybridge players congregated around the referee
to question his decision. The resulting free kick was
easily blocked but the ball dropped at the feet of Josh
Bowman whose fierce goal bound shot was handled in the
penalty area by a Ladybridge defender. Penalty awarded.
Being so late in the game together with the earlier contentious
free kick and it was too much to take for the Ladybridge
players resulting in Sam Williams being sent off for dissent.
After everything had calmed down Lewis Davies stepped
forward to take the penalty and cooly planted the ball
into the bottom left hand corner and Sale were level.
There was just time to restart before the referee blew
his whistle to end a game that literally had everything
for the spectator.
Whilst the circumstances of the late equaliser for Sale
United were somewhat controversial, both sets of management
agreed a draw was a fair result and everyone went home
happy.
Man of the match was Andrew Chapman. His work rate in
central midfield was exceptional. His dedictaion to the
team all season has been fantastic.
Sunday
7th October 2007 Urmston Town 1 - Sale United 5
After the sexy football of the previous week when the
team beat Stalybridge Celtic 8 - 0, Joint Managers David
Lamb and Mark Bainbridge decided not to change the team.
However, due to the absence of Kenny Winstanley at left
back, David Fitzpatrick was moved from his more usual
left side midfield role to that of left back and James
Lukeman was promoted from the bench to left midfield.
Right from the kick off it was apparent that Sale United
would have to work harder for a result this week as the
opposition set about trying to intimidate the Sale United
players. Any potential early tension was soon lifted with
an early goal from Sale's first corner after just four
minutes. A corner from the right by Lewis Davies was headed
into the roof of the net by James Lukeman. Nerves settled
and opposition rattled.
The flood of goals did not follow and despite dominating
Sale found a stubborn Urmston defence hard to break down.
The pasing and fluid football seemed to have gone missing
and frustrations were running high from both teams, the
referee choosing to be somewhat leniant with some rash
tackles and verbal outburts from the Urmston players.
Then in the twenty eighth minute Sale got their second
goal. A mix up between the Urmston central defenders allowed
Simon Masheder to bear down on the goalkeeper and he did
well after a nasty bobble to control the ball and role
it into the bottom left hand corner. That was Masheder's
fifth in three starts.
Sale didn't have it all their own way. In the forty first
minute Urmston Town's best player, Alex Rowland, was clumsiliy
brought down by Aaron Morris and a penalty rightly awarded.
Alex Rowland took the penalty himself and placed it in
the left hand corner, sending Kyle Stead the wrong way.
The penalty made the half time team talk a little harder
and the jaffa cakes not quite as nice as usual. Urmston
certainly went into the break lifted by the late penalty
and believing they could get something out of the game.
David Lamb said not to lose faith and and not to let Urmston
gain confidence as Sale were the better team. The next
goal would be crucial. Mark Bainbridge made just one change,
a straight swap sending on Josh Bowman up front for Simon
Masheder.
The early stages of the second half were fairly even.
Sale United lost the inspirational Tom Boden through injury,
replaced by Josh Gorman who went on to have a brilliant
game at centre half. In the fifty ninth minute Sale were
awarded a free kick forty yards out. Too far for a shot
on goal so Michael Ailes floated a high ball into the
Urmston penalty area and Josh Bowman rose to glance a
header into the goal. 3 - 1 to Sale United. This third
goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of Urmston and United
dominated and appeared to be finding more room on the
ball. Andrew Chapman found himself in space out on the
right wing and sent over a speculative cross to the far
post, under pressure from Josh Bowman the goalkeeper fumbled
and let the ball through his hands for Chapman's third
of the season. Twenty minutes to go and surely another
win for Sale United.
At this stage even the most vociferous Urmston Town players
seemed tamed and Sale started to play some nice football.
4 - 1 down, playing with ten men as a result of an injury
and having no substitues and Urmston just wanted to hear
the final whistle, but it wasn't over just yet. A second
on the day for Josh Bowman in the seventy ninth minute
sealed another great day for Sale United Youth. An inspirational
substitution by Mark Bainbridge saw Josh not only score
two goals but he created panic in the Urmston defence
and his half time introduction certainly made the difference.
Results elsewhere meant Sale United moved into second
behind leaders Cheadle Athletic. They have the second
best strike rate, third best defensive record and are
one of only three teams to have a plus goal average. Not
bad considering they lost their first three games.
Man of the Match was David Fitzpatrick at left back. He
brought his trickery and skills with him from his more
usual left wing roles and embarrssed Urmston's right winger
all afternoon.
Sunday
30th September 2007 Sale United 8 - Stalybridge Celtic
0
The joint management team of Sale United Youth, Mark Bainbridge
and David Lamb, had been saying since the season started
that it was only a matter of time until we got a scoreline
our football so far this season deserved.
The teams record going into Sundays game was played four,
won one lost three. Not a bad start for a newly formed
team playing their football in a new league. The team
joined the Altrincham Youth U21's League at the start
of the season having played in the Timperely Junior League
for nine years. However, Sunday saw everything come together
and Joint Manager David Lamb was delighted and pleased
for the boys, or should that now read MEN.
First half goals from Andy Lamb 2, Simon Masheder 2, and
Lewis Davies saw the home team go in 5-0 at half time.
It wasn't just the scoreline that was satisfying, it was
the manner in which they had achieved the half time advantage.
The passing and movement was absolutely fantastic leading
one parent to say it was like watching Manchester City
against Newcastle United. A comment that might once have
been less than flattering but having seen Manchester City
embarrass Newcastle United the day before the comment
was a huge compliment to the Sale United Youth team.
It would have been very easy for the team to sit deeper
in the second half and protect what they had, only the
previous week the team had battled hard to keep a 2-0
half time lead to run out eventual 2-1 winners. Whilst
it would have been a complete disaster had they failed
to win from a 5-0 half time lead, caution was demanded
from Mark Bainbridge. However, fifteen minutes into the
second half United got their sixth goal cleverly headed
home by Andy Chapman. Any slight hopes Stalybridge Celtic,
who were last seasons champions at this level, had of
a come back disintergrated and the home boys were allowed
to continue with their display of passing football. All
three named substitutes got in on the action and two of
the replacements got on the scoresheet. Josh Bowman hammering
home a good individual goal followed by another twisting
run and goal from the lively James Lukeman. At the end
of the game there was much jubilation and high fives all
round as all agreed it was truly a great day, a day when
everything went right and football management seems like
a stroll in the park.
The weather was great, there was a great crowd with many
parents coming to watch, it was well officiated by Ian
Chapman and the team certainly put on a display. Club
Chairman Colin Dowdy was there to experience what was
truly a great day for Sale United Youth who now sit fifth
in the league.
Man of the Match was David Fitzpatrick. A gifted left
winger who tormented the opposition right back throughout
the game
David Lamb - Sale United Youth Joint Manager
